Advocacy Overview

Our community can get in front of this food crisis and determine what can be done to ensure that families and individuals have the basic necessity of life: nutrition. We are experiencing growing numbers of people seeking food, engulfed families and individuals caught in the bind of a faltering economy, rising unemployment, and soaring fuel and food prices.

Our experience reflects a national problem. More and more, we are seeing troubling signs that people are having difficulty in obtaining enough food. They are the victims of a perfect storm: inflation, surplus food shortages, a recession, rising unemployment, climbing gas prices, and home foreclosures. These factors are forcing people to choose between spending their money on rent, gas, prescription medications, or food. For them, purchasing enough food to survive is a daily challenge.
