Leslie Bacho

Chief Executive Officer

Leslie Bacho joins Second Harvest Food Bank after serving as the chief operating officer at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank for 19 years. She brings a wealth of food-banking experience and a track record of success creating innovative solutions to reach more people with nutritious food. Leslie is a proven leader and innovator with expertise in strategic planning, scaling operations, fundraising, and public speaking.

While at SF-Marin Food Bank, Leslie led programs and operations for a $21M organization that distributes over 46 million pounds of food per year through over 400 nonprofit agencies. Leslie was responsible for strategic planning, the organization's day-to-day operations including warehouse operations, food acquisition, food distribution, nutrition education, and CalFresh outreach. She was also responsible for the support functions of finance, human resources, and information systems.

Some of Leslie's achievements include leading efforts to more than quadruple the amount of food provided to the community by expanding the organization's network of pantries from less than 10 to 250, growing the volunteer program from under 500 to more than 30,000 annual volunteers, and shifting the product mix from canned goods to fresh produce. Leslie was instrumental in the merger of the San Francisco and Marin food banks and the integration of the two staffs and communities around the mission to end hunger. She has also served in various leadership capacities with the national anti-hunger organization Feeding America.

Prior to joining SF-Marin in 1998, Leslie served as brand manager with the Clorox Company, where she was responsible for delivering volume and profit, setting strategic direction, developing and executing business plans, and developing new products. Leslie earned her MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and her BA from Duke University. She lives in San Francisco with her husband and two children.
