Together We Can Solve Hunger

Hunger affects 49 million Americans, including 16 million children. Here in our two counties, nearly a quarter million people rely on Second Harvest Food Bank for food every month. This Hunger Action Month, help raise awareness of local hunger by doing simple activities on our special calendar.

Knowing the Needs of Families

In 2010, Silvia Montaño and Jesus Calderón answered a "Volunteers Wanted" flyer from their child's school in East San Jose. Five years later, they run an efficient Second Harvest food distribution site and love the people they work with.

Healthy Food Prescriptions

We believe food is inseparably linked to health. Proper nutrition prevents and can even reverse chronic illnesses. We're working with our longtime partner Samaritan House in San Mateo County on an exciting "food pharmacy" pilot serving patients with diabetes.

Pack a Nutritious Lunch

Many studies show that students who skip lunch, or have an unhealthy snack for lunch, tend to be more distracted in the classroom. In our latest Nutrition Newbie post, nutritionist Alex Navarro shows how quick and easy it is to make a healthy school lunch in the morning.

Cruise for a Cause on 9/13

The Rompacoglioni Car Club will be hosting the Willow Glen Car Show in downtown Willow Glen this Sunday, 9/13. Last year, over 400 cars participated and the event raised over $20,000 dollars for the Food Bank. Come by this fun community event and bring canned foods to donate.

Give A Meal with BofA

The Feeding America network and Bank of America are joining forces to support the Give A Meal program, which aims to reduce hunger in local communities. For every $1 donated to Feeding America's Give A Meal program, Bank of America will give an additional $2!
