Did you know that we receive a variety of nutritious and healthy food items from local grocery retailers that would have otherwise gone to waste? Our retail donors donated more than 4 million pounds of grocery products through our Grocery Rescue Program in 2015. Food Resources Representative Sam Greenberg shares why food recovery is important and how our Grocery Rescue program works.

Taking on the SNAP Challenge

Fifteen students from Stanford Graduate School of Business recently took on the SNAP Challenge to experience what it's like eating on the equivalent of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits (i.e., CalFresh/food stamps). Gabe Hakim felt many things while doing the challenge, including social detachment and loss of time.

A Kind Heart and Fierce Fighter

Local hunger fighter Karen Martinez oversees monthly food distributions to nearly 300 families. Last year, she led the effort to bring Second Harvest Food Bank to Alpha Public Schools in San Jose, securing access for the school's families and neighbors to much needed food resources.
