A Prescription for Healthy Food

Nutritious food is essential to good health and we're proud to share that we recently opened our second food pharmacy with Samaritan House in San Mateo County! The San Mateo Free Clinic Food Pharmacy is available to low-income patients with diabetes who can immediately "fill" prescriptions for free, nutritious food prescribed by their doctor.

Yolanda Gutiérrez works at QTS, which has a community impact program that encourages employees to volunteer 24 hours each year. A passionate supporter of Second Harvest, she got some of her co-workers together to adopt one of our food distribution sites where they help out every month.

Making a Thoughtful Choice

Local Hunger Fighter Donna Duval retired from San Jose State University in 2013 and decided she wanted to give back to her community. After a year of searching for the right fit, she's now been volunteering her clerical skills at our Curtner Center for almost 2 years.
