Each year, about 40 percent of the food produced for people to eat in the United States goes to waste. Second Harvest Food Bank is working to get some of that food into the hands of those who need it. The program is designed to recover a variety of nutritious foods from local grocery stores for neighborhood food pantries and meal programs.

How does Grocery Rescue Donation Work?
Second Harvest will coordinate scheduled donation pick-ups with local grocery retailers. Donations will be picked up by our refrigerated trucks or by our authorized partner agencies. All food handlers are certified in food safety and trained and certified to pick up donations.
Currently, we are working with over 60 local grocery stores in our community. Second Harvest is proud to partner with stores such as Target, Walmart, Save Mart, and Sprouts Farmers Market.
To encourage companies to donate, the government instituted the Good Samaritan Food Donation Act to protect donors from criminal and civil liability. Learn more about the Good Samaritan Act
