Katy Malatesta Giron joined Second Harvest in early 2019 as the Director of Marketing and Communications, and within four months of starting her role she helped successfully launch the organization’s rebrand. She has 15 years of experience holding various leadership and marcomm positions across nonprofit, higher education, tech and publishing. In her role, Katy leads a cross-functional team focused on organizational messaging, storytelling, PR/media outreach, digital marketing, social media, project management and design. In response to the explosive need for food assistance as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Katy has expanded her work to include oversight of executive and internal communications as well. Prior to joining Second Harvest, Katy was the Director of Brand and Marketing Strategy at Santa Clara University, and helped lead the branding for their $1B comprehensive campaign, Innovating with a Mission.
Katy is a Bay Area native and currently lives in San Jose with her husband, son, dog and cat. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in communication from UC San Diego, and a Master’s degree in education from San José State University.
