Thuy Le, Second Harvest Partnership Manager, verteilt Lebensmittel an die Bewohner von Valley Palms<\/p><\/div>\n

Der Second Harvest Truck kommt jeden dritten Samstag im Monat um 7 Uhr morgens im Apartmentkomplex Valley Palms an. Freiwillige k\u00f6nnen Kisten entladen und Tische aufstellen. Familien versammeln sich und unterhalten sich, w\u00e4hrend sie darauf warten, dass sich die Speisekammer \u00f6ffnet. Wenn dies der Fall ist, w\u00e4hlen sie aus einer Reihe nahrhafter Lebensmittel und frischer Produkte und bringen sie dann zur\u00fcck in ihre Apartments. Die neue Speisekammer in diesem erschwinglichen Wohnkomplex ist Teil unserer Bem\u00fchungen, Lebensmittel f\u00fcr diejenigen von uns zug\u00e4nglicher zu machen, die sie ben\u00f6tigen.<\/p>\n

Second Harvest versucht neue Wege, um Menschen dort zu erreichen, wo sie sind. Viele unserer Nachbarn k\u00f6nnten von den von uns angebotenen nahrhaften Lebensmitteln profitieren, aber sie k\u00f6nnen aus verschiedenen Gr\u00fcnden, einschlie\u00dflich Arbeitspl\u00e4nen und Transportproblemen, nicht zu einer unserer Lebensmittelverteilungen gelangen. Die Speisekammer wurde im Juli durch eine Partnerschaft mit The Health Trust und Project Access er\u00f6ffnet. Es dient bereits mehr als 150 Familien.<\/p>\n

"Das Essen gibt Familien wirklich einen Schub", sagte Lupe Rivas, der f\u00fcr Project Access als Resident Services Coordinator bei Valley Palms arbeitet. \u201eSie k\u00f6nnen Milch, Eier, H\u00fchnchen, Reis, Bohnen und frische Produkte bekommen - alles Grundlagen. Nahrung ist die Hauptquelle des \u00dcberlebens. Das hilft ihnen, den Monat zu \u00fcberstehen, andere Rechnungen zu bezahlen und Windeln zu kaufen. \u201c<\/p>\n

Project Access betreibt ein Familienressourcenzentrum im Apartmentkomplex mit 354 Wohneinheiten, in dem etwa 3.000 Einwohner leben. Die gemeinn\u00fctzige Organisation bietet ihren Bewohnern Gesundheits-, Bildungs- und Arbeitsvermittlungsdienste, einschlie\u00dflich Nachschulprogrammen und Jugendf\u00f6rderungskursen.<\/p>\n

Nahrhaftes Essen ist teuer<\/strong><\/p>\n

"Viele Familien k\u00f6nnen sich kein gutes Essen leisten, so dass sie sicher sein k\u00f6nnen, dass ihre Kinder jeden Tag mindestens eine gesunde Mahlzeit erhalten", sagte Lupe. \u201eEs hilft Kindern, stark und gesund aufzuwachsen. Ohne gesundes Essen k\u00f6nnen sie sich nicht auf die Schule konzentrieren, interagieren oder sich engagieren, weil sie hungrig sind. \u201c<\/p>\n

Die Speisekammer wird von Bewohnern betrieben, haupts\u00e4chlich von M\u00fcttern, die der Valley Palms Neighborhood Association angeh\u00f6ren, oder von Valley Palms Unidos, wie sie sich selbst nennen - Valley Palms Together. Sie sind eine leidenschaftliche Gruppe von Bewohnern, die hart daran arbeiten, Valley Palms zu einem sicheren Ort zu machen, um Kinder gro\u00dfzuziehen und positive Programme f\u00fcr die Nachbarschaftsgemeinschaft bereitzustellen.<\/p>\n

Die neue Speisekammer zeigt auch die Kraft der Zusammenarbeit. Second Harvest arbeitete bereits mit Project Access zusammen, um Sommergerichte im Valley Palms und Snacks f\u00fcr das Afterschool-Programm anzubieten. Die \u00d6ffnung der Speisekammer erm\u00f6glichte es Familien, das nahrhafte Essen zu bekommen, das sie ben\u00f6tigen, um regelm\u00e4\u00dfig zu gedeihen.<\/p>\n

"Ich m\u00f6chte dieser Organisation daf\u00fcr danken, dass sie uns beim Essen geholfen hat", sagte Fabiola, eine Bewohnerin und Mitglied von Valley Palms Unidos. \u201eEs hat meiner Familie und der Gemeinde hier in Valley Palms besonders geholfen. Second Harvest verteilt Lebensmittel an 57 erschwingliche und unterst\u00fctzende Wohngemeinschaften, und es ist geplant, auf weitere Apartmentkomplexe und Mobilheimparks zu expandieren. Wir haben Umfragen und Fokusgruppen durchgef\u00fchrt, um besser zu verstehen, warum einige Menschen, die Lebensmittel ben\u00f6tigen, unsere Dienste nicht nutzen. Diese Bem\u00fchungen informieren dar\u00fcber, wie wir unsere Programme zug\u00e4nglicher machen.<\/p>\n
