Als Servicemitarbeiter und andere im Silicon Valley begannen, ihre Jobs zu verlieren, verdoppelte sich die Zahl der Menschen, die zu unseren Essensausgaben kamen. Wir mussten drastische Ma\u00dfnahmen ergreifen. Wir mussten sicherstellen, dass jeder im Silicon Valley Zugang zu nahrhaften Lebensmitteln hat und gleichzeitig die Gesundheit unserer Kunden, Freiwilligen und Mitarbeiter inmitten einer Pandemie sch\u00fctzen kann. Obwohl einige der \u00c4nderungen dazu gedacht waren, die Herausforderungen des Tages schnell zu meistern, hat uns das Gelernte geholfen, \u00c4nderungen vorzunehmen, von denen unsere Kunden in den kommenden Jahren profitieren werden. Eine dieser \u00c4nderungen bestand darin, aus Gesundheits- und Sicherheitsgr\u00fcnden keine Lebensmittelspenden von Einzelpersonen mehr anzunehmen. Das bedeutete, dass wir die traditionellen Essensaktionen auf Eis legen mussten, weil wir Essen von der Gemeinde nicht sicher annehmen konnten. Gleichzeitig mussten wir unsere Lebensmittelversorgung drastisch erh\u00f6hen, da sich immer mehr Menschen um Hilfe an uns wandten. Als Reaktion auf den steigenden Bedarf haben wir unsere Abl\u00e4ufe rationalisiert und Lagerfl\u00e4chen genutzt, die zuvor zum Sortieren und Verarbeiten der in unseren F\u00e4ssern gesammelten Lebensmittel verwendet wurden.<\/p>\n<p>Obwohl unsere F\u00e4sser in der Gemeinde ein vertrauter Ort sind, stammten tats\u00e4chlich nur etwa 41 TP1 t der an unsere Kunden verteilten Lebensmittel von Lebensmittelaktionen. Der \u00fcberwiegende Teil dessen, was wir verteilen, wird von Erzeugern, Lebensmittelherstellern, Verarbeitern, Gro\u00dfh\u00e4ndlern, Distributoren und Einzelh\u00e4ndlern gespendet. Es braucht riesige Mengen an Nahrungsmitteln, um jeden Monat 450.000 Menschen mit nahrhaften Lebensmitteln zu versorgen. Wir kaufen auch Lebensmittel zu Gro\u00dfhandelspreisen, um die Spenden zu erg\u00e4nzen, um sicherzustellen, dass wir unseren Kunden eine gesunde Auswahl an Lebensmitteln bieten.<\/p>\n<h3>Wir haben die Zahlen geknackt<\/h3>\n<p>Als es an der Zeit war, \u00fcber die Wiederaufnahme unseres traditionellen Food-Drive-Programms nachzudenken, haben wir die Zahlen analysiert, um festzustellen, ob dies immer noch ein effektiver Weg ist, um Lebensmittel f\u00fcr unsere Kunden zu beschaffen. Nachdem wir die Kosten f\u00fcr die Herstellung und den Transport der F\u00e4sser, die Sortierung und Lagerung der gespendeten Lebensmittel sowie die Verwaltung und Vermarktung der Kampagnen zusammengerechnet hatten, stellten wir fest, dass traditionelle Lebensmittelaktionen tats\u00e4chlich teurer sind als der Kauf von Lebensmitteln.<\/p>\n<p>Unser Fokus lag schon immer darauf, unseren Kunden Lebensmittel von h\u00f6chster Qualit\u00e4t zu bieten, und Food Drives sind nicht der beste Weg, dies zu tun. Durch die Annahme gro\u00dfer Spenden und den Kauf von Lebensmitteln k\u00f6nnen wir kontrollieren, was wir bekommen, und sicherstellen, dass unsere Kunden die nahrhaften Produkte haben, die sie zum Gedeihen ben\u00f6tigen. <strong>Deshalb haben wir uns entschieden, unser traditionelles Food-Drive-Programm endg\u00fcltig zu beenden<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Maximierung unserer Wirkung<\/h3>\n<p>Wir wissen, dass viele Einzelpersonen, Unternehmen und Organisationen unz\u00e4hlige Stunden in die Durchf\u00fchrung traditioneller Lebensmittelaktionen f\u00fcr Second Harvest investiert haben, und wir honorieren Ihr Engagement f\u00fcr unsere Mission.
