Als sie 1990 von Boston in die Bay Area zogen und erfuhren, wie viele Menschen \u2013 vor allem Familien mit Kindern \u2013 unter Nahrungsmittelknappheit litten, waren sie entsetzt. \u201eNiemand sollte auf eine nahrhafte Mahlzeit verzichten m\u00fcssen, vor allem nicht in einer wohlhabenden Gegend wie dem Silicon Valley.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Besonders besorgt waren sie dar\u00fcber, dass so viele Kinder ohne ausreichende Ern\u00e4hrung auskommen mussten. \u201eIch erinnere mich, wie ich jeden Abend mit meiner Familie zusammensa\u00df und ein selbst gekochtes Essen bekam\u201c, sagte Alan. \u201eIch hielt es f\u00fcr selbstverst\u00e4ndlich.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Joan und Alan begegneten Second Harvest zum ersten Mal, als sie ehrenamtlich bei einer von Alans Firmenveranstaltungen mitwirkten. Sie waren beeindruckt, wie viel nahrhaftes Essen f\u00fcr jeden gesammelten Dollar bereitgestellt wurde.<\/p>\n<p>1993 machten sie ihre erste Spende und wurden in den n\u00e4chsten 30 Jahren zu engagierten Spendern. Als es an der Zeit war, dar\u00fcber nachzudenken, ein Verm\u00e4chtnis zu hinterlassen, schien es logisch, ein Verm\u00e4chtnis aus ihrem Nachlass aufzunehmen, in dem Second Harvest als bedeutender Beg\u00fcnstigter genannt wurde.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><blockquote>\n<p>\u201eWir haben selbst keine Kinder. Wir wollen sicherstellen, dass zuk\u00fcnftige Kinder den gleichen Zugang zu gesundem Essen haben wie wir, als wir aufwuchsen.
