Recuerdo cuando recibimos la llamada de la Agencia de Servicios Sociales del Condado de Santa Clara pidi\u00e9ndole a Second Harvest que hiciera informaci\u00f3n y referencias, ya que interrump\u00edan este servicio. Dijimos que solo har\u00edamos recomendaciones de alimentos, no alojamiento y otros servicios de apoyo. Lo que el Banco de Alimentos agreg\u00f3 sobre los servicios del Condado fue que en realidad est\u00e1bamos aprovechando los sistemas sin fines de lucro. Remitimos a las personas a nuestro programa de despensa, pero solo pudieron obtener tres referencias en un a\u00f1o.<\/p>\n<p>Establecimos la oficina de Food Connection en la antigua \u00e1rea de almacenamiento de nuestra antigua instalaci\u00f3n en Commercial Street en San Jos\u00e9. Dec\u00edamos: &quot;Es una locura que las personas que viven en el este de San Jos\u00e9 tengan que ir hasta el oeste de San Jos\u00e9 para obtener servicios&quot;. Nuestro objetivo para Food Connection era ayudar a las personas a obtener servicios en su propio c\u00f3digo postal. Realmente comenzamos a ver de d\u00f3nde proven\u00edan estas referencias y d\u00f3nde estaban los servicios. Tambi\u00e9n nos ayud\u00f3 con el tiempo a ver d\u00f3nde estaban algunos de los vac\u00edos en nuestro sistema.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Comparando la necesidad desde entonces hasta ahora, \u00bfcu\u00e1les dir\u00eda que son las mayores diferencias?<\/em> <\/strong><br \/>\nAhora estamos haciendo m\u00e1s referencias p\u00fablicas y privadas. En los primeros d\u00edas, solo est\u00e1bamos haciendo la red sin fines de lucro. No est\u00e1bamos inscribiendo a las personas en CalFresh, ni haciendo referencias a programas de comidas escolares u otra asistencia p\u00fablica, por lo que fue dif\u00edcil tener una buena idea de la necesidad general. Con el tiempo, ha habido m\u00e1s y m\u00e1s recortes en la red de seguridad p\u00fablica, lo que ha empujado a las personas a recurrir a la red de seguridad privada sin fines de lucro a\u00fan m\u00e1s. Ahora realmente ves recortes en el sector de la vivienda. Hubo viviendas de HUD, cupones de la secci\u00f3n 8: ha habido m\u00e1s presi\u00f3n sobre el sector sin fines de lucro para compensar esas p\u00e9rdidas.<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n con el tiempo, nuestro personal ahora est\u00e1 inscribiendo a las personas de manera mucho m\u00e1s amplia para obtener recursos p\u00fablicos y privados. El sistema del condado realmente ha permitido que entidades sin fines de lucro como Second Harvest inscriban a las personas en sus programas y anteriormente ese no era el caso. Ha habido un reconocimiento mucho m\u00e1s fuerte de que el Banco de Alimentos y nuestra red de socios podr\u00edan estar tocando poblaciones vulnerables que quiz\u00e1s nunca vayan a las oficinas de Servicios Sociales. Y sin duda existe una gran confianza dentro de nuestra red de socios de que no compartimos la informaci\u00f3n que recopilamos de clientes individuales con nadie m\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00bfHay algo m\u00e1s que le gustar\u00eda compartir sobre la l\u00ednea directa de Food Connection?<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nEs realmente un salvavidas para mucha gente. Adem\u00e1s, lo que ha cambiado con el tiempo es que ya no tenemos esta mentalidad de que solo se pueden tener 3 crisis en un a\u00f1o. Realmente tuvimos que educar a nuestras agencias socias para pensar las cosas de manera diferente. La vida de las personas no es solo epis\u00f3dica. A veces lo son, pero la realidad es que m\u00e1s personas necesitan asistencia alimentaria continua solo para subsistir. Ese es un gran cambio con respecto a la mentalidad de las derivaciones de emergencia.
