La nostra cliente Colette usa la spesa gratuita di Second Harvest per entrare in contatto con la sua infanzia peruviana.<\/h3><\/div>

Colette \u00e8 arrivata nella Bay Area nei primi anni 2000 dalla sua nativa Lima, in Per\u00f9, con due bambini piccoli, una modesta quantit\u00e0 di bagagli e un cuore pieno di sogni, caratteristica di coloro che lasciano tutto nella speranza di un futuro migliore. All'inizio lo shock culturale \u00e8 stato travolgente, ma presto ha iniziato a fare amicizia che le hanno fornito una grande rete di supporto, il conforto di sorrisi accoglienti e un posto intorno al tavolo.<\/p>\n

Molti di questi nuovi amici erano di origine messicana. Hanno aiutato Colette e i suoi figli a navigare tra le complessit\u00e0 di un nuovo ambiente e li hanno esposti a nuove tradizioni e sapori che ha imparato rapidamente a integrare nella sua cucina peruviana. Colette ha iniziato istintivamente a creare ricette in cui fondeva ingredienti, metodi e sapori di entrambe le culture per creare piatti deliziosi. Alla tavola di Colette \u00e8 normale assaporare burritos e tacos con ingredienti peruviani come l'aj\u00ed panca o l'aj\u00ed mirasol.<\/p>\n

"Il peperoncino giallo \u00e8 una tradizione andina e per me \u00e8 importante che i miei figli riconoscano questi sapori tradizionali", afferma Colette.<\/p>\n

Essere una madre single ha portato sfide inaspettate e molte spese. Ecco perch\u00e9 da otto anni Colette visita le dispense offerte da Second Harvest of Silicon Valley. Afferma che il cibo che ha ricevuto da Second Harvest le consente di fornire un menu nutriente e vario alla sua famiglia. Ogni mese Colette riceve scatole con frutta, verdura, legumi, latticini e cereali. Ordina con cura il cibo e lo mette nel frigorifero e nel congelatore per farlo durare pi\u00f9 a lungo.<\/p>\n

Da quello che riceve nella scatola del Secondo Raccolto, Colette prepara il tradizionale aji de gallina, lomo saltado, e un piatto preferito tramandato da sua nonna, causa lime\u00f1a. Colette usa anche le ricette che le vengono date nei negozi di alimentari gratuiti e ha partecipato a dimostrazioni di cucina che l'hanno ispirata a cucinare con ci\u00f2 che riceve dalla banca del cibo.<\/p>\n

Per Colette, i piatti peruviani sono un collegamento diretto alla sua infanzia e ai suoi nonni, che hanno avuto una grande influenza sulla sua educazione e sul suo amore per la cucina tradizionale peruviana. Colette ha lasciato molte cose quando \u00e8 venuta a vivere negli Stati Uniti. \u00c8 stato un percorso di adattamento e crescita, e lei si sente molto orgogliosa di essere riuscita a trasmettere ai suoi figli ormai grandi i sapori e le tradizioni di una cultura che, nonostante la distanza, avr\u00e0 sempre un posto nella sua cucina e nel suo cuore.<\/p>\n

"Vedere mia figlia, che \u00e8 vegana, cucinare piatti ispirati alla cucina peruviana non ha prezzo", dice Colette. \u201cSono felice di sapere che alla fine della giornata io e i miei figli ci riuniamo attorno al tavolo per parlare di quello che \u00e8 successo durante la nostra giornata e per condividere il tempo insieme mentre ci gustiamo cibo delizioso e sano\u201d.<\/p>\n
