Mayor, City of Mountain View

Ellen Kamei is a two-time Mayor of the City of Mountain View in the heart of Silicon Valley, as well as the Director of Government Affairs and the Public Information Officer at Foothill-De Anza Community College District. She began her service to Mountain View as an Environmental Planning Commissioner, community volunteer and nonprofit board member. Ellen brings a robust background in civic leadership and education, representing both world-renowned corporations and a dynamic small business community.
A third-generation resident, Ellen is a multiracial and multilingual daughter of small business owners who champions Mountain View’s vision of a “Community for All.” Her work focuses on inclusive economic development, public-private partnerships and sustainable growth. She is also committed to Second Harvest’s mission to combat food insecurity and stigma by providing free food resources to families and neighbors in our community.
Ellen holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara. A former collegiate rower, Ellen enjoys being on the water whenever she can. She and her family live in Mountain View with their toddler, infant and therapy dog.
