Ik herinner me nog dat we het telefoontje kregen van de Santa Clara County Social Services Agency waarin ze Second Harvest vroegen om informatie en doorverwijzing te doen omdat ze deze dienst stopzetten. We zeiden dat we alleen voedselverwijzingen zouden doen, geen huisvesting en andere ondersteunende diensten. Wat de Voedselbank heeft toegevoegd aan de diensten van County, was dat we daadwerkelijk gebruik maakten van de non-profitsystemen. We verwezen mensen naar ons voorraadkastprogramma, maar ze konden maar drie verwijzingen per jaar krijgen.<\/p>\n<p>We hebben het Food Connection-kantoor gemaakt in de oude opslagruimte in onze voormalige faciliteit aan Commercial Street in San Jose. Vervolgens duwden CEO Mary Ellen Heising en ik de &quot;rommel&quot; uit de opslagruimte, over de rand van het tweede verhaal in bakken!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Wat was de opstelling van de Food Connection Hotline?<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nFood Connection is begonnen met het gebruik van bestandskaarten om klantgegevens bij te houden. Onthoud dat het was begonnen voordat we computers hadden voor personeel op kantoor! Het was een groot probleem toen Plantronics ons headsets gaf die medewerkers konden dragen bij het beheren van oproepen. We hebben een lange weg afgelegd.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Wat heeft de Voedselbank geleerd nadat ze ja heeft gezegd tegen de provincie en de hotline heeft geleid?<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nAl vroeg werd duidelijk dat mensen lange afstanden moesten afleggen om diensten te krijgen. We zeiden: &quot;Dit is nogal gek dat mensen die in Oost-San Jose wonen helemaal naar West-San Jose moeten gaan om diensten te krijgen.&quot; Ons doel voor Food Connection was om mensen te helpen services in hun eigen postcode te krijgen. We zijn echt gaan kijken waar deze verwijzingen vandaan kwamen en waar de diensten waren. Het heeft ons ook in de loop van de tijd geholpen om te zien waar sommige hiaten in ons systeem zaten.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Als je de behoefte van toen tot nu vergelijkt, wat zijn volgens jou de grootste verschillen?<\/em> <\/strong><br \/>\nNu doen we meer openbare en priv\u00e9verwijzingen. Vroeger deden we vrijwel alleen het non-profit netwerk. We schreven geen mensen in voor CalFresh, noch deden we verwijzingen naar schoolmaaltijdprogramma&#039;s of andere openbare hulp, dus het was moeilijk om een goed idee te krijgen van de algemene behoefte. In de loop van de tijd zijn er steeds meer bezuinigingen op het openbare vangnet, waardoor mensen zich nog meer tot het particuliere vangnet zonder winstoogmerk hebben gewend. Nu zie je echt bezuinigingen in de woningsector. Er was HUD-huisvesting, sectie 8-vouchers - er is meer druk uitgeoefend op de non-profitsector om die verliezen goed te maken.<\/p>\n<p>Ook na verloop van tijd schrijven onze medewerkers mensen nu veel uitgebreider in voor openbare en particuliere middelen. Het provinciesysteem heeft echt non-profitorganisaties zoals Second Harvest in staat gesteld om mensen daadwerkelijk voor hun programma&#039;s in te schrijven en eerder was dat niet het geval. Er is veel sterker onderkend dat de Voedselbank en ons netwerk van partners mogelijk kwetsbare bevolkingsgroepen raken die misschien nooit naar de sociale diensten gaan. En er is zeker een enorm vertrouwen binnen ons partnernetwerk dat we de informatie die we van individuele klanten verzamelen niet met iemand anders delen.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Is er nog iets dat u wilt delen over de Food Connection Hotline?<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nHet is echt een reddingslijn voor veel mensen. Wat ook in de loop van de tijd is veranderd, is dat we niet langer deze mentaliteit hebben dat je maar 3 crises per jaar kunt hebben. We moesten onze partnerbureaus echt leren om anders over dingen na te denken. Het leven van mensen is niet alleen episodisch. Soms zijn ze dat, maar de realiteit is dat meer mensen doorlopende voedselhulp nodig hebben om rond te komen. Dat is een enorme verandering ten opzichte van de mentaliteit van noodverwijzingen. En ik vind het geweldig dat mensen zichzelf niet hoeven te verdedigen als ze naar een voorraadkast moeten, waarom ze meer dan drie keer moeten komen.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>*** Ken je iemand die hulp
