\u201cMission: Possible\u201d richt zich op onze vrijwilligers, zonder wie onze missie om een gemeenschap zonder honger te cre\u00ebren onmogelijk zou zijn!\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Deze maand hebben we gepraat met Stephanie Wong, Miss Asian North America 2018. Stephanie werkt in de technologie, spreekt op conferenties en vrijwilligers met vele non-profitorganisaties, waaronder Second Harvest. We wilden meer over haar leren!<\/p>\n

Stephanie, vertel eens wat over jezelf.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hoi! Ik ben Stephanie Wong! Ik ben geboren en getogen in de Bay Area. Ik ging naar school bij UCLA en nu werk ik in de tech. Mijn hobbies zijn verschillende soorten dans. Ik doe al meer dan 10 jaar ballet! Ik oefen ook andere stijlen zoals competitieve hiphop, luchtdans en Braziliaanse Samba. Ik ben Miss Asian North America 2018 en ben verheugd om via deze rol met veel organisaties in onze gemeenschap samen te werken.<\/p>\n

Vertel ons over uw Miss Asian North America-verkiezing. Hoe voelde je je na het winnen?<\/strong><\/p>\n

De missie van de Miss Asian North America-missie is om een platform te bieden ter bevordering van leiderschap, cultureel bewustzijn, gezond leven en onderwijs onder jonge Aziatische Amerikaanse vrouwen in heel Noord-Amerika. Deze op een beurs gebaseerde verkiezing hoopt de Aziatisch-Amerikaanse cultuur naar een hoger niveau te tillen door de persoonlijke en humanitaire doelen van de afgevaardigden en hun algehele essentie van intellect, talent en schoonheid te laten zien.<\/p>\n

Het evenement vindt plaats in Las Vegas en wordt mogelijk gemaakt dankzij geweldige vrijwilligers, sponsors en lokale bedrijven. Ik ken de oprichter van de verkiezing nu al een paar jaar. We zijn allebei gekroond tot Miss Chinatown USA, ik bekleedde de rol in 2016 en de oprichtster van Miss Asian North America, Annie, won de titel een paar jaar eerder. Ik was verheugd dat Annie haar eigen organisatie was begonnen en het was een enorme eer voor mij om te winnen!<\/p>\n

Ik heb een geweldige tijd gehad om zoveel getalenteerde vrouwen met verschillende levensverhalen te ontmoeten. Ik hield ook van het uitvoeren van Braziliaanse Samba op het podium.<\/p>\n

Mijn platform is vrouwen in technologie, en dit is een doel waar ik echt een passie voor heb. Ik wil gelijke kansen voor vrouwen in de technologie aanmoedigen, vooral in het hogere management. Ik heb veel vrouwen bijgewoond tijdens technische evenementen en heb zoveel talent gezien, maar deze vaardigheid wordt niet beloond in de branche.<\/p>\n

Wat inspireerde je om vrijwilligerswerk te doen bij Second Harvest?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ik werkte vroeger bij Oracle en een van onze offsite teambuilding-evenementen vond plaats in het San Carlos-centrum van Second Harvest. We organiseerden ingeblikt voedsel en in slechts een paar uur gingen we door meer dan 3000 blikjes. Het personeel van Second Harvest was erg vriendelijk, de instructies waren heel duidelijk en ik vond het geweldig dat ze de tijd namen om uit te leggen welke impact ons vrijwilligerswerk zou hebben.<\/p>\n

Ik heb zo'n geweldige tijd gehad dat ik besloot om alleen terug te komen. Toen ik in augustus op de Cypress-locatie in San Jose kwam, hebben we ma\u00efs gesorteerd en dozen gemaakt!<\/p>\n

Vrijwilligerswerk doen bij Second Harvest is gemakkelijk in de omgang en heeft een blijvende impact, dus ik moedig iedereen aan om het te doen!<\/p>\n

Waarom denk je dat het belangrijk is om honger te bestrijden?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Honger is een stille pandemie die zoveel mensen in onze gemeenschap treft, zelfs hier in Silicon Valley. Het gaat hand in hand met mijn platform van vrouwen in tech: het niet hebben van voedzaam voedsel zal de opvoeding van kinderen be\u00efnvloeden, waardoor ze niet hun volledige potentieel kunnen bereiken.<\/p>\n

Ik denk dat het belangrijk is om iets terug te geven als je het kunt. Vrijwilligerswerk leert je compassie en het is een geweldig gevoel om iemand anders te helpen. Kom naar Second Harvest - ze verwelkomen je met open armen!<\/p>\n
