Afgelopen vakantieseizoen hebben we het idee ge\u00efntroduceerd dat &#039;het gezicht van honger bekender is dan je denkt&#039; en uitgedaagd hoe mensen honger visualiseren. Onze eigen Zia MacWilliams, Manager van Federal Children&#039;s Nutrition Programmes, onderzocht dit idee door middel van een fotojournalistiek project met haar zus, Zel. Zia liet de bandrecorder achter in deze luide omgeving en cre\u00eberde speciale herinneringen voor haar interviewonderwerpen. Door brood te breken kon Zia persoonlijke connecties vormen die cruciaal waren voor het bespreken van moeilijke onderwerpen. Tijdens deze maaltijden ontdekte Zia welke pizza-toppings kinderen de voorkeur gaven, naast het bespreken van kwesties als verslaving en misbruik. Deze relaties begonnen met respect en de vrijgevigheid van het delen van een speciale maaltijd. Natasha, Wafaa, Vanessa en Kristen ondersteunen hun families, verlaten een religie of overleven een gewelddadig huishouden, en laten zien hoe honger bestaat in een breder leven. Simplistische verhalen beschouwen honger als een persoonlijke mislukking van luiheid of onbekwaamheid. De afbeeldingen van MacWilliams herinneren de lezers er echter aan hoe honger zelfs de sterkste en meest veerkrachtige individuen treft. De traan op Vanessa&#039;s gezicht, Wafaa&#039;s bewering van kracht en Kristen&#039;s dankbaarheid laten zien hoe honger persoonlijk is. Deze reeks emoties stelt dat het gezicht van de honger inderdaad bekender is dan we denken.
