De Mission College-student is dankbaar voor het voedsel dat hij van Second Harvest ontvangt, omdat het hem helpt zijn doel na te streven om universiteitsadviseur te worden.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cHet eten helpt me omdat ik de komende weken voedselzekerheid heb. Ik hoef me geen zorgen te maken over wat ik ga eten voor lunch of diner. &#039;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Toen ik opgroeide, was er meestal eten in huis. Maar Ray herinnerde zich een tijd tijdens de recessie waarin zijn familie moest bezuinigen op hun voedselbudget.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Ik merkte dat we onze maaltijden hadden gepland rond de goedkopere ingredi\u00ebnten of alles wat we konden verbouwen&quot;, zei hij. &#039;Maar als je volwassen bent, weet je niet waarom. Je gaat er gewoon mee, tenminste in onze familie. We hebben ze niet in twijfel getrokken. We waren aan het eten en dat was het enige dat ertoe deed. &#039;<\/p>\n<p>Ray is afgelopen herfst overgeplaatst van het Gavilan College in Gilroy naar het Mission College in Santa Clara. Net als veel andere studenten worstelt Ray om tijdens zijn studie naar voedsel en andere noodzakelijke uitgaven te betalen. Ondanks het feit dat hij twee banen heeft, woont hij in zijn busje omdat huur in Silicon Valley gewoon te duur is. Ray hoorde over Second Harvest&#039;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shfb.org\/impact\/blog\/mission-college-food-market\/\">voedseldistributie op de campus<\/a> kort daarna ging hij naar Mission College. Hij was bang om om hulp te vragen, maar bouwde uiteindelijk de moed op door te delen: &#039;Ze maken het heel gastvrij. En toen ik een rij mensen zag, kreeg ik het gevoel dat ik erbij hoorde. &#039;<\/p>\n<p>Nu haalt hij een keer per maand boodschappen op. Ray moedigt mensen die hulp nodig hebben aan om zich er geen zorgen over te maken:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cIk was ongeveer zeven jaar minister van Jeugd en het feit dat ik in contact stond met veel jongeren die een trauma hebben meegemaakt en naar hun verhalen luisterden, heeft me echt be\u00efnvloed in sociaal werk. Je hebt waarschijnlijk meer verantwoordelijkheden of omstandigheden waar je je zorgen over moet maken - laat voedsel er niet een zijn als er een manier is om het te krijgen. Het is een last van je schouders. Er is een gemeenschap met je, vooral als je student bent. &#039;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Gevoed door zijn gemeenschap, richt hij zich op het behalen van een diploma in psychologie en onderwijs. Ondanks de uitdagingen waarmee hij in Silicon Valley wordt geconfronteerd, gelooft Ray dat zijn leven en loon hier veel beter zijn dan waar hij opgroeide.<\/p>\n<p>Met uw steun kan Second Harvest
