Vorige maand sloot Second Harvest zich aan bij 40 andere voedselbanken uit de hele staat voor de 2019 Conference to End Hunger, georganiseerd door de California Association of Food Banks in Sacramento. Gedurende twee dagen deelden onze collega's op het gebied van voedselbankieren hun kennis en expertise op het gebied van paraatheid bij noodsituaties, innovatie op het gebied van klantenservice en de huidige wetgeving die van invloed is op de inspanningen op het gebied van hongerbestrijding.<\/p>\n

Ik voelde me vereerd om deel uit te maken van het leger van voedselbankiers in Californi\u00eb dat het mensenrechtenrecht op voldoende gezond voedsel aanpakt. Capital Action Day: pleiten voor onze klanten<\/strong><\/p>\n

Na de conferentie gingen verschillende van onze medewerkers naar de hoofdstad om wetgevers te betrekken en te pleiten voor programma's die van invloed zijn op onze klanten en de gemeenschap.<\/p>\n

Vice-president van Strategie en Advocacy Tracy Weatherby deelde de ervaring van haar team met het bezoeken van wetgevers en hun personeel:<\/p>\n

\u201cTijdens een wervelwinddag spraken we met de staf van acht kantoren, waaronder die van gouverneur Gavin Newsom, om te lobbyen voor meer vergoedingen voor schoolmaaltijden en ondersteuning voor programma's van Breakfast After the Bell die meer kinderen op school helpen voeden. We hebben gepleit voor eenvoudigere toegang tot CalFresh voor studenten en het wegnemen van de barri\u00e8res voor alle individuen en gezinnen die zich aanmelden voor het programma.<\/p>\n

Naast veel toegewijde stafmedewerkers, konden we rechtstreeks een ontmoeting hebben met senator Jim Beall, Assembly-lid Robert Rivas en Assembly-lid Kansen Chu. We hadden ook het voorrecht een congreslid Mark Berman een prijs toe te kennen voor zijn partnerschap in de strijd tegen honger. \u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
