Maar een verborgen gevolg van de pandemie is de emotionele last van stress. Het trof ons allemaal, maar de gezinnen met een laag inkomen werden het meest onder druk gezet.<\/p>\n<p>Irma (47) en haar zoon (27) wonen in een stacaravan die ze heeft ge\u00ebrfd toen haar moeder in 2019 overleed. Irma zegt dat ze door het verdriet en de eenzaamheid gaat van het verlies van de matriarch van de familie en haar beste vriend, samen met de stress en onzekerheid van het verliezen van haar baan als tandartsassistente aan het begin van de pandemie, was verwoestend. Ze kon niet uit bed komen en realiseerde zich dat ze depressief was.<\/p>\n<p>Irma en haar vier broers zijn hechter geworden sinds het overlijden van hun moeder, en de broers hebben zowel emotionele als financi\u00eble steun aangeboden om hun enige zus te helpen met een deel van haar uitgaven. Irma ging weer fulltime aan het werk en kreeg een tweede baan in de weekenden en haar zoon werkt nu als assistent-kok in een Italiaans restaurant in Berkeley. Ze zegt dat hij niet alleen elke maand helpt met het betalen van de huur voor de parkeerplaats van hun stacaravan, maar dat hij haar ook prachtig geplateerde maaltijden maakt, zoals hij zijn klanten in zijn restaurant meestal geeft van het voedsel dat ze ontvangen van hun Second Harvest-voedseldistributie in Alviso. Ze zou alleen willen dat hij grotere porties voor haar zou maken.<\/p>\n<p>Irma schaamt zich niet om voedsel van Second Harvest te krijgen en zal in deze moeilijke tijden graag om hulp blijven vragen terwijl ze uit de schulden komt.
