Ellen Kamei is a current Councilmember, former Mayor, and former Environmental Planning Commissioner for the City of Mountain View, CA. A third generation resident, she is the daughter of a Chinese and Puerto Rican American mother and a Japanese American father born at Heart Mountain incarceration camp. She is a multi-lingual government affairs professional with over 15 years in the public sector working at every level of government. Ellen is currently part of the External and Legislative Affairs Team for AT&T California.

A former educator and community volunteer, Ellen is the Past President of the League of California Cities Women’s Caucus and President for the League of California Cities Peninsula Division. Ellen is committed to Second Harvest’s mission to combat food insecurity and stigma by providing free food resources to our community and families.

Ellen was selected to be among the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 2021 Women of Influence honorees and recognized as the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce Athena International Awardee in 2022. Ellen earned her MPA from the University of Pennsylvania, and bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
A former collegiate rower, Ellen enjoys being on the water whenever she can. She and her family live in Mountain View with their toddler, infant, and therapy dog.
