The Giving Block is a fundraising platform that partners with Gemini, a cryptocurrency exchange, to convert cryptocurrency donations to cash for nonprofits like Second Harvest of Silicon Valley.

Donors giving $5,000 or more in cryptocurrency are required to file an IRS Form 8283 and receive a qualified appraisal. Provided you include your name and email, you will automatically receive a tax receipt and a Form 8283 pre-filled for U.S. tax filings. If you need to request a Form 8283, please send an email with “Appraisals” in the subject line. The Giving Block will assist with appraisals as long as your donation meets the minimum of $5,000.

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley does not maintain a reserve of cryptocurrency, therefore all cryptocurrency donations to Second Harvest are final and refunds will not be given under any circumstances.

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley accepts donations of cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency is digital or virtual currency. Commonly traded cryptocurrency includes Bitcoin, Ethereum and USD Coin.

Donors will receive a receipt with the donation amount listed in U.S. dollars. We suggest that donors seek advice from their accountant or tax advisor regarding the tax considerations of cryptocurrency donations.
