Building a food-secure
future for Silicon Valley

We are creating a new home for Second Harvest that will help us sustainably serve Silicon Valley for decades to come. Together with our community, we can build a stronger, healthier, food-secure future.

The impact of our new home

For 50 years, Second Harvest has been the hub of our community’s food assistance network — sharing food at no cost with nearly every local nonprofit serving our neighbors. Today, 1 in 6 people across Santa Clara and San Mateo counties turns to Second Harvest each month. This high demand has stretched our current facilities to their limits.

Our new home will:

  • Bring operations together, improving efficiency and saving millions annually.
  • Expand capacity to distribute up to 160M lbs. of food each year, with room to scale in emergencies.
  • Significantly increase cold storage (freezer, refrigerated and chilled space).
  • Nearly double loading docks to better serve partners and deliveries.
  • Support volunteers and visitors with dedicated space and ample parking.
  • Feature a modern, energy-efficient, LEED-certified design with solar power and EV charging.
  • Strengthen long-term resilience and ability to respond to future crises.

“From my very first donation to Second Harvest in 1995 to constructing a new building: It’s not just a center for food distribution – and therefore hope and connection – but also a place for community meetings, participation and volunteering. That’s the kind of society we want to live in, and Second Harvest is leading the way. It’s truly amazing.”

We invite you to be
part of this moment

In Silicon Valley, one of the wealthiest regions in the country, far too many neighbors still struggle to put food on the table. Through changing economic conditions and policy uncertainty, one thing has remained constant: our community shows up. Second Harvest is here — steady, trusted and ready — ensuring families, seniors and children have reliable access to the food they need to thrive.

Any contributions received in excess of the amount needed for the designated project or after the building project is completed will be used at the discretion of the organization toward their mission.
