In Silicon Valley — one of the wealthiest regions in the country — far too many neighbors still struggle to put food on the table. Today, 1 in 6 people in our community turns to Second Harvest each month for nutritious food and half are kids and seniors.

Through changing economic conditions and policy uncertainty, one thing has remained constant: our community shows up. Second Harvest is here — steady, trusted and ready — ensuring families, seniors and children have reliable access to the food they need to thrive.

The Food Bank, Inc. uit Santa Clara County werd in 1974 opgericht door Economische en Sociale Kansen en werd in 1979 opgericht als een non-profitorganisatie. In 1988 fuseerde de San Mateo County Food Bank met The Food Bank, Inc. uit Santa Clara County om de Second Harvest Food Bank van de provincies Santa Clara en San Mateo te worden.

In 1992 verhuisde Second Harvest naar een nieuw magazijn van 65.000 vierkante meter in San Jose dat nu Curtner Center is. In 1996 begon het Peninsula Distribution Centre (Bing Center) van de Voedselbank San Mateo County te bedienen in een onlangs gerenoveerd 22.000 vierkante meter groot magazijn in San Carlos. In 2012 opende Second Harvest Cypress Center in Noord-San Jose, verdubbelde de activiteiten en leverde een speciale productiedistributiefaciliteit.

In 2019 veranderde de organisatie haar naam in Second Harvest of Silicon Valley en blijft ze alle provincies Santa Clara en San Mateo bedienen.
