Everyone deserves access to nutritious food

The need for consistent access to nutritious food continues at near-record levels — 1 in 6 individuals in our community relies on Second Harvest for food, and half are children and seniors. Families are facing urgent challenges due to rising costs of food, housing and childcare. Even before the recent cuts to SNAP (formerly food stamps) and Medicaid in HR1 (Big Beautiful Bill Act), our clients’ budgets were stretched thin.

Now, families may face higher healthcare costs from HR1 and the loss of Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies — all on top of soaring living expenses — which could drive more people to seek food assistance. When healthcare costs rise, food is often the first thing families cut — increasing food insecurity and demand at food banks.

Second Harvest is here to help ensure families don’t have to choose between groceries, rent or healthcare. No matter what happens, our commitment remains steadfast: ensuring everyone in our community has the nutritious food we all need to thrive. But we cannot meet this moment alone. We need your help.
